Another unique finals for the Open Series featured Domri Naya looking to close out the event with a win against G/R Aggro, a matchup Kibler himself has cited as troubling for his World Championship creation. Would Adam pull off the upset? Andrew had a tough matchup this round in Mario’s Junk Aristocrats. While Naya’s Thundermaw Hellkites are excellent, an early Skirsdag High Priest basically required a Domri Rade. Without one, the 1/2 would take over the game in short order. The top seed earned Andrew the play, but his Domri Naya deck was up against the best Thragtusks in Standard—the value-laden Beasts of Junk Reanimator. Could he come out of the gates fast enough to let Thundermaw Hellkite finish cleaning up?

Reid had decided to spend his birthday battling some Legacy, and he’d gotten to do exactly that—as midnight rolled around, he was still in the event and fighting for the trophy against Shawn Tappen’s Reanimator list. “I lost one game today,” Shawn said as the players discussed their Swiss rounds. “Uh, I definitely lost more than one game today!” Brian replied. Could he triple Shawn’s losses and advance to the finals in Philadelphia? On the play, against Goblins? TES master Bryant Cook couldn’t ask for much more in his quarterfinal matchup, but Jim Davis hoped to beat the odds and chalk up a win for the little green men. |
