The first Open Series event of 2015 is in the books and a familiar face on the series captured his fourth trophy!

Coming off a seventh-place finish at the Players’ Championship, Joe Lossett piloted W/U Heroic to win the #SCGCOL Standard Open, catapulting him into first place on the Season One leaderboard. Lossett, looking to qualify for this year’s Players’ Championship, came out on top of a stacked Top 8, including Jim Davis, Steve Mann, Logan Mize, Chris Andersen, and Rudy Briksza. Lossett was one of three players in the Top 8 playing W/U Heroic, utilizing a one-of Spectra Ward from the sideboard to take the third and final game of the finals. The win marks his third Standard Open win in four Top 8s, joining his 12 Legacy Open Top 8s, and an Invitational Top 8, moving him into fourth place all time on the Open Series for combined Top 8s.

Davis took U/W Control to a semifinal finish, while Briksza fell in the quarterfinals with Abzan Reanimator and Andersen dropped his quarterfinal match with a fresh 4-Color Soul of Theros midrange deck. Mann and Mize lost in the quarterfinals with W/U Heroic, both dropping Heliod’s Pilgrim from the aggressive deck pioneered by Tom Ross. Matt Anderson and Bruce Edelman rounded out the Top 8, playing R/W Aggro and Jeskai Tokens, respectively.

Robert Graves, a Jeskai Ascendancy combo aficionado in Modern, took the powered-up version of the deck to a win in the Legacy Premier IQ at #SCGCOL, defeating Jeff Dickens and Death and Taxes in the finals. Open Series regulars Eric English, Kevin Jones, Lauren Nolen, Joe Bernal, and Benjamin Ball also reached the elimination rounds with eight different decks being represented in the eight-person bracket.

David Nolan won the Modern Premier IQ at #SCGCOL with U/R Delver, edging Stephen Speck and Amulet Combo in the finals. Notable brewer and Belcher pilot, Garett Young made the semifinals with a Necrotic Ooze combo deck, joining Ryan Forsberg with Jeskai Delver in the Top 4.
