Slovakian Ivan Floch made the most of his first Pro Tour Top 8 Sunday by winning Pro Tour Magic 2015 after flawlessly piloting U/W Control through a stacked elimination bracket.
Floch defeated first-time Pro Tour player Jackson Cunningham in the finals, 3-2, making use of a pair of Nyx-Fleece Ram and an Archangel of Thune in Game 5, shutting the door on Cunningham’s G/W Aggro deck. Floch reached the finals by defeating Matt Sperling playing R/W Burn in the quarterfinals and Owen Turtenwald on B/W Midrange in the semifinals.
Rounding out the Top 8 was Hall of Famer William “Huey” Jensen, making his fifth Pro Tour Top 8, Yuuki Ichikawa, reaching his second Pro Tour Top 8 in four attempts, and Patrick Cox and Pierre Mondon, both making their first appearance on the Sunday stage.
Floch wasn’t the only winner on the weekend. On top of a champion being crowned, the Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year races were determined as well. Jeremy Dezani locked up Player of the Year with his ninth-place finish, falling just short of a second Pro Tour Top 8 this season after winning Pro Tour Theros in Dublin. Jared Boettcher took home the Rookie of the Year title, capping a fantastic year that included two Pro-Tour Top 16s and multiple Grand Prix Top 8s. Boettcher also reached the Top 8 of the Season One and Season Two StarCityGames.com Invitationals.
