FINAL ASCENSION IMMORTAL TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD MARCH 30
AT THE STARCITYGAMES.COM INVITATIONAL IN CHARLOTTE, NC
ROANOKE, VA. – January 24, 2014 – StarCityGames.com will be running its final Ascension Immortal Tournament on March 30 at the StarCityGames.com Open Series featuring the Invitational in Charlotte, NC. Despite the growth in Ascension’s casual play, the competitive market for the game has not caught on like its casual counterpart, and StarCityGames.com has decided to sunset the tournament series with one last event, where the champion will have their likeness immortalized on a future Ascension promo card.
Stone Blade Entertainment, the creator of the Ascension deckbuilding game and SolForge, has decided to shift its focus for Ascension toward their existing in-store events.
“The Ascension Immortal Tournament at the Invitational in Charlotte will be the last event in this series. Ascension organized play will continue with a focus on store level events, such as our Game Day program,” said Brian Kibler, Minister of Propaganda for Stone Blade Entertainment. “Players looking to win the right to appear on a future Ascension card will still have a chance to do so at our World Championships at GenCon this summer. Star City Games has been an excellent partner and we look forward to working together with them again in the future.”
The format for the final Ascension Immortal Tournament will be the Rise of Vigil Block and entry is $20. Other prizes for players in the Top 16 include Amazon gift cards, exclusive playmats, and Ascension Honor token bags.
“It was an honor to have been a part of something as unique and exciting as the Ascension Immortal Tournaments,” said Pete Hoefling, President of StarCityGames.com. “Stone Blade Entertainment is one of the most innovative companies in our industry, and I look forward to partnering with them again on future initiatives.”
StarCityGames.com is located in Roanoke, VA, and has been the world's largest Magic: The Gathering store for more than a decade. Since the creation of the StarCityGames.com Open Series in 2010 the company has led the worldwide Magic: The Gathering independent tournament circuit, expanding the series every year since its inception.
