It was a jam packed weekend of tournament Magic, so it's time to get to the #SCGNEWS! Lets start off with the Open Series in Los Angeles, where StarCityGames.com descended on Stan Lee's Comikaze and a pair of pretty big names took home the Standard Open and Legacy Open trophies.
Four time Grand Prix top 8 competitor Ben Lundquist made the Standard format sit up and take notice, as his R/W Aggro deck exploited a hole in the metagame to win the cup. That hole? One and two power creatures for one and two mana, like Dryad Militant and Precinct Captain, backed up by pump effects, like Ajani, Caller of the Pride and Spear of Heliod, all held together by the cheap anti-removal package of Boros Charm, and Brave the Elements! Since his previous SCG Open top 8 finish was in Legacy with Merfolk, If he keeps this up people will start to think the nickname 'Benny Beatdowns' isn't an ironic one...
Then in Legacy, West Coast all-star Ricky Sidher put a notch on his belt when he recorded his victory in LA with RUG Delver. His friendships with Open Series regulars Jacob Wilson and Michael Hetrick may have had an influence on Ricky, who defeated William 'Huey' Jensen in the finals. But don't feel too bad for Huey: after all, that's back-to-back second place finishes with Sneak and Show for the 2013 Hall of Famer after last week's Invitational!

On the other side of the country, Magic's Eternal Weekend was bustling with activity and crowned two more champions! StarCityGames.com's own Ari Lax emerged victorious as the 2013 Legacy champion with Death & Taxes, defeating SCGLive commentator and Pro Tour winner Osyp Lebedowicz in the finals. Osyp utilized the powerful Commander 2013 addition to the Legacy metagame True-Name Nemesis to bring his U/R Delver within one match of the championship. But it was Ari's Mono-White Control that ended up taking down the event.
Then on Sunday, Jacob Lim's Merfolk defeated AJ Grasso's RUG Delver in the finals... in Vintage! Yes, the Fishies are the Reel Deal in Magic's most eternal of formats as well, and once again True-Name Nemesis made an appearance... and I'm sure it won't be the last we've seen of the newest Commander rare to shake up Magic.

A bit further south at Grand Prix Santiago, even a 6.6 magnitude earthquake on the Thursday before the event couldn't top the earthshaking news that first-time GP competitor Luis Navas won the event with a brand new archetype: B/R Aggro. Navas utilized Mogis's Marauder, Spike Jester, Tormented Hero, Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch, and a slew of other less-then-popular cards to surprise the South American tournament with his breakout win.

And we still aren't done with the news! The famed Bazaar of Moxen event took place in in Nanterre, France, and crowned even more champions: Julian Knab won the Legacy Main Event with Elves, while several other winners in various formats were crowned hroughout the weekend. One winner was SCG Providence Standard Open champ Michael Bonde, who took down the Vintage portion of BoM.
