Just in case there was any doubt, Brad Nelson and Todd Anderson are pretty good at Magic.

#SCGBALT's Standard and Legacy Opens were jam packed with star power. Big names like GP Charlotte champion Frank Skarren, 2012 US National Team member Joe Pennachio, and the Meddling Mage himself Chris Pikula all made it to the single elimination rounds. But there could only be two, and when the dust settled a pair of SCG Beast tokens remained: Brad Nelson and Todd Anderson!

Brad took down his first Standard Open trophy with Junk Aristocrats, a new archetype on the block played by many of the Roanoke contingient including Brian Braun-Duin. Brad defeated a top 8 that included three copies of Standard's new darling Naya Aggro, an archetype popularized by Aaron Barich's back-to-back finishes with the deck at SCG Dallas a few weeks ago. You can read Aaron's article about the genesis of the deck in his Industry Standard article on his finishes.

After Brad took down the Standard Open, Todd Anderson made it two-for-two SCG Premium writers winning Opens when he won the Legacy Open armed with Deathblade. Once again, BBD features prominently in the creation of an Open Series winning deck, and this is the second weekend in a row where the relatively new archetype won the premier Legacy event of the weekend.

With both of these players appearing on StarCityGames.com's premier strategy video program Above the Curve this week, it's sure to be one hell of an episode! In case you missed any of the action, here are the links to the weekend's festivities in the Charm City:

Meanwhile, across the world the third and final World Magic Cup Qualifier tournaments were taking place. Several big names made their respective national teams, and in the United States the final slot will be filled by Daniel Cecchetti. Daniel, a Madison, Wisconsin-area player who has been playing Magic for a long time, won the tournament in Chicago with Bant Hexproof. Congrats Daniel, and good luck at the #MTGWMC!

Next weekend on #SCGNEWS we'll have even more winners than usual, thanks to the Team Limited Grand Prix in Providence, Rhode Island, plus Grand Prix Göthenburg and #SCGSTL rounding out the competitive Magic for the weekend. See you then!
