It was a full weekend of Magic in Return to Ravnica Block Constructed, Standard, and Legacy this weekend, so without forther ado lets cut right to the action!
Of course, the biggest news was #PTDGM in San Diego, California, where notable lover of white-based aggressive decks Craig Wescoe utilized his prowess with cards like Dryad Militant and Voice of Resurgence to earn victory! In a format where AEtherling is AetherKing, Craig decided to sidestep the control battle and "go under" his opponents with beatdown... and it worked!
Of course, Craig's win wasn't the only story from the weekend. Team SCG put up some solid results, with Reid Duke getting 9th, Tom Martell 12th, and Gabriel Nassif finishing in 13th among other solid finishes. Team SCG's blog, kept up-to-date by our own intrepid reporters Cedric Phillips and Glenn Jones, can be found here:
Josh Utter-Leyton finished in 4th, meaning that he came from behind to take not only the American Captaincy for the World Magic Cup but also Player of the Year! In addition, Felipe Tapia Becerra became the very first Latin American Rookie of the Year. And many players, including crowd favorites Luis Scott-Vargas and Reid Duke, earned Platinum at the Pro Tour as well!

On the other side of the country, #SCGNASH was taking place... and the more things change, the more they stay the same. Derrick Roper took down Saturday's Standard Open in an all Junk Reanimator mirror match finals that he expertly took down 2-0 in short order, while Invitational champion Lauren Nolen won Sunday's Legacy Open with Esper Stoneblade over rising star of the Open Series Jack Fogle... also on Esper Stoneblade.
But the weekend was far from innovative, with Brian Braun-Duin, Christoffer Andersen,Chris VanMeter, and others bringing brand new spice to both formats. Check out their deck techs in the event coverage below, and while you're at it check out all of the happenings that took place in Nashville this weekend!

Up north, #SCGMA in Springfield, Massachusetts, crowned a Standard champion as well. The winner, Jared Boettcher, brought a unique R/W/B Zombies deck to the winner's circle. Does this finish signify a possible return of Geralf's Messenger to the top?
Of course, this coming week the Open Series comes to Dallas for #SCGDAL, Grand Prix Guadalajara takes place, M14 Game Day gets underway around the country, and much much more... so stay tuned to SCG NEWS!
