Joe and Caleb are both coming off a Top 8 at the Season Four Invitational in Las Vegas, but Caleb is on quite the hot streak with a win in Vegas and only one loss so far this weekend. Will Joe on Burn or Caleb on Affinity improve to 2-1?

Game 1

Can Caleb be stopped?

Caleb opened up with Darksteel+Citadel, double Ornithopter, Mox+Opal, and Arcbound+Ravager, while Joe could only get two permanents on board, Stomping+Ground and Goblin+Guide, but no attack. Caleb's second turn include a Blinkmoth+Nexus and Signal+Pest along with an attack from the Ravager as he made it a 2/2 after sacrificing the Opal. Joe attacked with the Guide and Caleb missed on the reveal and chose not to block. Joe used his second main phase to point a Lava+Spike at Caleb and a second Guide on defense.

"Mt trusty blocker," Joe said as he passed the turn.

Caleb added a Glimmervoid to his board and attacked with the team. Joe put the Guide in front of the Ravager and Caleb made it a 3/3 by sacrificing an Ornithopter. Caleb played a Vault+Skirge and passed with no cards in hand. Joe attacked and revealed another Ravager as Caleb took two more. Caleb played the new Ravager and sent in the team once again. Joe had no blocks, but used an Atarka's Command to prevent life gain and drop Caleb to 10 while he fell to 7.

Joe attacked and Caleb revealed a Galvanic+Blast before blocking with his Ravager that made his previous Ravager a 4/4. Joe played another defensive Goblin+Guide and passed, but Caleb untapped, animated his Nexus and attacked for lethal despite the unusual untapped Guide.

Game 2

Joe looks for a way to beat some Timely+Reinforcements.

Joe kicked things off by fetching a Stomping+Ground and playing a Grim+Lavamancer while Caleb only had a Blinkmoth+Nexus and a Signal+Pest. Joe fetched up a Mountain to kill the Pest with his Lavamancer and sent a Lava+Spike at Caleb's face. Caleb found a Spellskite and a Mox+Opal on his second turn as Joe played and attacked with a Goblin+Guide that revealed a Springleaf+Drum. Joe ended his turn by suspending a Rift+Bolt.

Caleb played his third Blinkmoth+Nexus and the Drum before adding a Vault+Skirge and a Signal+Pest before passing the turn. Joe fetched a Sacred+Foundry at the end step, untapped, and sent the Rift+Bolt at the Skirge, killing it, then played a second Guide and sent them both into the red zone. The reveal showed an Arcbound+Ravager and Caleb put the Spellskite in front of one of them, falling to 13. Joe finished off the Spellskite with his Lavamancer and suspended another Rift+Bolt.

Caleb played the revealed Ravager he drew for the turn and his last card was a Cranial+Plating. Joe decided to point the Rift+Bolt at the Ravager so Caleb sacrificed the Opal to grow it then he animated a Nexus and pitched it and the Drum to make it a 4/4 to survive the Bolt. Joe turned his Guides sideways and Caleb took it, going to 9, but revealing Timely+Reinforcements on the top.

Caleb drew the Reinforcements and passed the turn, leading Joe to activate the Lavamancer and target the Pest that Caleb sacrificed to the Ravager. Joe only played a Wooded+Foothills for his turn and passed without any attacks. Caleb pulled the trigger on his Reinforcements after ripping a Glimmervoid to allow him to play the white sorcery. Caleb went up to 15 and got three soldiers and passed back.

Joe played a Monastery+Swiftspear on his next turn but his army of one-drops couldn't attack through the defenses Caleb had back. Caleb untapped and animated a Blinkmoth+Nexus and equipped the Plating to it and attacked. Joe used his Lavamancer to shoot it down and Caleb kept making his Ravager bigger. Joe's draw offered no options and he passed the turn back. Caleb animated a Nexus and suited it up to attack, but Joe used Searing+Blaze and Caleb responded by sacrificing Ravager to keep the land alive and get through for seven.

Joe hit Caleb with another spike of lava and attacked with the Swiftspear, which Caleb chumped with a token. Caleb animated the Nexus and attacked, leading Joe to reveal the Sacred+Foundry in his hand and prompted him to extend the hand.
