Tom is looking to improve to 2-0 in Modern while Jacob is trying to even up his record to 1-1 in the Battle for Byes pool play match. Would Tom run over his opponent with zoo animals or would Jacob grind out the win with Jund?

Game 1

Stomping+Ground and playing a Wild+Nacatl that immediately ate a Lightning+Bolt from Jacob, but Tom saved it with a Mutagenic+Growth. Tom attacked with his Nacatl after playing a tapped Sacred+Foundry and added a Kird+Ape to his board. Jacob fetched up a Swamp and played a Tarmogoyf to try to block the path.

Tom sent in his creatures and Jacob put the Tarmogoyf in front of the Ape, leading Tom to play Atarka's Command, giving his team +1+1 and dealing three to Jacob, leaving him at 7 after combat damage. Jacob missed his third land drop and played a Dark+Confidant as a road block. Tom had Searing+Blaze, however, to hit Bob for one and attacked, leaving Jacob at 1. Jacob took a look at his next card and grabbed his deck to go to sideboarding.

Game 2

Jacob is #JundGuy for the #SCGPC.

Jacob started things off by fetching a Swamp and used Inquisition+of+Kozilek to take Wild+Nacatl, leaving a bunch of creatures and Searing+Blaze in Tom's grip. Tom fetched a Stomping+Ground and played Kird+Ape. Jacob also fetched a Stomping+Ground, going to 16, and played Tarmogoyf. Tom went to 14 to fetch an untapped Sacred+Foundry to play a couple Goblin+Guides and passed the turn. Jacob passed right back after playing a Raging+Ravine.

Tom played a Bloodstained+Mire and shoved his team into the red zone letting Jacob get a Swamp off a Goblin+Guide trigger. Jacob put his Tarmogoyf in front of a Guide and used a Terminate on the Ape. Tom used a Searing+Blaze to take down the Tarmogoyf and ended his turn by playing a Wild+Nacatl. Jacob used his turn to kill both creatures with a Terminate and Lightning+Bolt and Tom played a Monastery+Swiftspear to get in for one and added a Grim+Lavamancer to his board.

Jacob slammed an Obstinate+Baloth to go back to 14 and passed. Tom answered the Baloth with a Roast and got in for two more with the Swiftspear. Jacob found a Scavenging+Ooze and passed after adding a Ghost+Quarter to his mana base. Tom decided to hit Jacob for two with his Lavamancer at the end step, allowing Jacob to grow the Ooze by exiling a Kird+Ape. Tom pondered for a bit before pointing a Lightning+Bolt at the Scavenging+Ooze so Jacob responded by using his Ghost+Quarter on his Stomping+Ground to find a Forest and allow him to grow the Ooze out of Bolt range and putting him at 12. Tom knew it was coming and used the Lavamancer to finish off the Ooze and attacked for two.

Jacob landed Liliana+of+the+Veil and made Tom sacrifice a creature, which turned out to be the Swiftspear. Jacob ended his turn with his own Lavamancer, but Tom killed it with his and passed. Jacob had a Maelstrom+Pulse for the Lavamancer and upped Liliana. Tom could only play a land and pass as Jacob did the same after ticking up Liliana. Tom deployed an Eidolon+of+the+Great+Revel, but it fell to Liliana as Jacob continued gaining ground with his Planeswalker. Tom passed and Jacob upped Liliana and played a Scavenging+Ooze, but Tom found the answer by using a Searing+Blaze to kill it and take out the Planeswalker. Jacob began beating down with the Raging+Ravine and Tom's next draw step only offered a new Lavamancer.

Jacob killed the Lavamancer with a Terminate and added a land to his board. Tom took a draw and passed and took another hit from the Ravine. Tom took a look at his next card and starting shuffling up for Game 3.

Tom 1, Jacob 1

Game 3

Tom, on a mulligan to six, started the game with a Goblin+Guide to get in for two while Jacob had Inquisition+of+Kozilek to see Tom had no more threats in his hand, but three removal spells and a land. Jacob decided on taking the Roast and left him with two copies of Path+to+Exile. Tom ripped another Goblin+Guide and bashed for four as Jacob missed on the reveal for a second time. Jacob played a tapped Stomping+Ground and used a Lightning+Bolt on a Guide in Tom's upkeep.

Tom attacked for two and saw a Terminate on the top of Jacob's deck then fetched an untapped Stomping+Ground to play Eidolon+of+the+Great+Revel. Jacob played a Forest and used Kologhan's Command to kill the Eidolon and passed. Tom knocked Jacob to 8 with the Guide and shipped the turn. Jacob killed the Guide with a Maelstrom+Pulse and added a Verdant+Catacombs to his board.

Tom drew and passed with no action as Jacob had an Obstinate+Baloth, but Tom responded with Atarka's Command to deal three and prevent the life gain. Tom passed again with no play and Jacob bashed with the Baloth and passed. Tom said "go" once again and Jacob sent in the Baloth and Tom pulled the trigger on a Path on the Baloth this time. Jacob landed Liliana and ticked her up. Tom drew and played a Kird+Ape and passed the turn.

Jacob upped Liliana again as both players discarded lands and he sent a Lightning+Bolt at the Ape before ending the turn. Tom put Jacob to 2 with a Lightning+Bolt at the end of the turn. Tom played a land and passed as Jacob upped Liliana and played a Tarmogoyf. Jacob attacked and passed the turn. Tom considered breaking his fetch but took a draw and played a Kird+Ape, but lost it to a Terminate and fell to 1 from the Tarmogoyf attack.

"Probably going to draw a Searing+Blaze here," Tom said before he drew a card.

Tom flipped the top card after drawing it, but it was a Wild+Nacatl and all he could do was extend his hand.

Jacob 2, Tom 1
