Day 2 Metagame Breakdown
All players with 18 points made Day 2, meaning 101 players would return to battle for a shot at the Top 8 of the Standard Open at #SCGWOR. Move over Watery+Grave, Breeding+Pool is now the most popular shockland in the meta after the release of Core Set 2020. Simic Nexus and Simic Flash lead the top spots in Day 2, with 13 and 12 copies respectively. While Nexus really only gained power in sideboard cards like Aether+Gust, Cerulean+Drake, and Veil+of+Summer, the Simic Flash deck got new tools like Nightpack+Ambusher, Brineborn+Cutthroat, and Spectral+Sailor.
Orzhov Vampires tied Mono-Blue Aggro the third spot at eight pilots each, with big help coming from Sorin%2C+Imperious+Bloodlord. Mono-Blue Aggro benefits from many of the same cards Simic Flash got, utilizing Spectral+Sailor and Brineborn+Cutthroat. Temur Elementals, the marquee new deck from Core Set 2020, had six players reach Day 2 to showoff the power of Omnath, Locus of the Roil, Risen+Reef, and Cavalier+of+Thorns.
From there, Esper decks still remain strong, along with Mono-Red Aggro and Gruul Aggro. Feather decks upgraded with the reprinting of Gods+Willing, and Dinosaur decks finally showed up thanks to Marauding+Raptor and Rotting+Regisaur.
