Day 2 Metagame Breakdown
All teams with 20 points or more made Day 2, meaning 25 teams would return to battle for a shot at the Top 8 of the Team Open at #SCGBALT. Standard has shifted from last week as Esper Control jumped in popularity, matching Sultai Midrange at seven players each. After the top two decks, the field rounds out with three copies of Azorius Aggro, two copies of Temur Reclamation, and a smattering of one-ofs.
In Modern, Grixis Death’s Shadow is back on top with five players along with Arclight+Phoenix decks of different flavors. Three players went with the traditional Izzet Phoenix, while the Mono-Red build and a Temur build with Traverse+the+Ulvenwald also showed up. Dredge, Humans, Burn, and Amulet Titan were the other decks with multiple copies.
In Legacy, Grixis Delver tops the field again with four copies while Grixis Control didn’t make Day 2 at all. Lands and Miracles each had three copies, while Izzet Delver, Colorless Eldrazi, and Eldrazi Post each had two players. Surprises in Legacy showed up in Izzet Delver including Pteramander and Light+Up+the+Stage and a Grixis Phoenix deck that Thomas Ashton piloted to a 9-0 record on Day 1.
