Day 2 Metagame Breakdown
All players with 18 points made Day 2, meaning 112 players would return to battle for a shot at the Top 8 of the Modern Open at #SCGCHAR. Despite Dredge’s dominance last weekend in Dallas, the format has responded, and the representation of the busted graveyard deck dipped considerably. Humans and Mono-Green Tron topped the field with 13 copies each, followed by Bant Spirits, Azorius Control, and Jund at seven pilots each. While Jund doesn’t offer much in terms of Dredge hate, Tron, Azorius Control, and Bant Spirts all have access to many pieces of graveyard hate, while Humans clocks the deck fast enough with plenty of disruption to combat it.
Dredge itself shows up next at six copies, along with Storm and Jeskai Control. Notably, many players that were on Dredge last week in Dallas that traveled to Charlotte switched decks, including Caleb Scherer and Pieter Tubergen. Burn is up next with five players, followed by Amulet Titan and Infect at four.
The rest of the Day-2 field is pretty scattered with varying numbers of decks like Izzet Wizards, Grixis Whir, Ironworks, Hardened+Scales, and Goglari Midrange showing up with multiple copies. Meanwhile, rogue decks with one pilot include: Elves, Arclight Red, Bring+to+Light, 8-Rack, and W/B Eldrazi.
