Day 2 Metagame Breakdown
All players with 19 points made Day 2, meaning 69 players would return to battle for a shot at the Top 8 of the Modern Open at #SCGATL. Though the Day 2 field is smaller than most the recent Modern events on the SCG Tour®, the spread of decks is much closer than usual. The most-played deck came down to a five-way tie with Humans, Jeskai Control, Affinity, Mono-Green Tron, and Infect at four copies each. Humans, Jeskai Control and Affinity are no strangers to the top of the meta, but the resurgence of Infect and Mono-Green Tron show a concentrated effort to counter Ironworks Combo and similar decks.
Ironworks Combo, Grixis Death’s Shadow, Burn, Storm, and U/W Control showed up next at three copies. Ironworks is seeing more play following the success of the deck over the past couple of weekends. More of the usual suspects fill out the field at two pilots, including B/R Hollow+One, Mardu Pyromancer, Blue Moon, and G/W Company.
Interesting one-ofs in the field include: Faeries, B/W Smallpox, Temur Moon, U/R Prison, and Bant Spirits.
