Day 2 Metagame Breakdown
All players with 21 points made Day 2, meaning 67 players would return to battle for a shot at the Top 8 of the Modern Open at #SCGMINN. The rise of Jeskai Control isn’t enough to scare away Humans, as the deck surged back to the top spot this week with nine of the 67 Day-2 players sleeving up the aggressive tribal deck. Humans was highlighted by the last undefeated player in the event, Dylan Hand showcasing the power of the deck coming off a Top 8 last weekend in Louisville.
Jund took the No. 2 spot with six pilots leading into the decks with five copies on the second day of competition: Jeskai Control, U/W Control, Affinity, and Burn. Jeskai Control was championed by Jim Davis and Jonathan Rosum, both going 8-1 on Day 1. From there, B/R Hollow+One, Mardu Pyromancer, Grixis Death’s Shadow, and Counters Company all had three pilots. Mardu Pyromancer took down #SCGKY last weekend and appears to be well situated still, with solid matchups against Humans and Jeskai Control.
Elves and G/W Hexproof each had two copies on Day 2. Rogue decks with one player include: Mardu Death’s Shadow, Goblins, 8-Rack, Eldrazi Taxes, and more.
