Day 2 Metagame Breakdown
All players with 21 points made Day 2, meaning 92 players would return to battle for a shot at the Top 8 of the Modern Open at #SCGMKE. Modern is a new a place with the recent unbannings of Bloodbraid+Elf and Jace, the Min Sculptor, but that doesn’t stop the top decks from ignoring those cards altogether. In fact, the top four decks in Day 2 field didn’t play either, with Humans, Burn, G/W Hexproof, and Affinity leading the way.
Humans and Burn paced the field with eight pilots each, while G/W Hexproof surprisingly showed up next at six copies, followed by Affinity at five. BBE showed up in the fifth-most played deck, G/R Land Destruction, and Jace makes an appearance in Jeskai Control, with four pilots on Day 2. Also at four players each, Mardu Pyromancer and B/R Hollow+One, two decks that performed quite well in last weekend’s MOCs.
Usual suspects fill out the metagame at three copies each, including decks like Elves, Counters Company, Grixis Shadow, Eldrazi Tron, Titan Shift, Jund, Infect, and G/R Eldrazi. Rogue decks making an appearance include: Grixis Delver, Bomat Red, U/W Spirits, Five-Color Aggro, and W/R Taxes.
