Day 2 Metagame Breakdown
All players with 21 points made Day 2, meaning 72 players would return to battle for a shot at the Top 8 of the Modern Open at #SCGDFW. In the first Modern main event since the unbanning of Jace%2C+the+Mind+Sculptor and Bloodbraid+Elf, the format looks stable for now. Neither card dominated the Day-2 field, with only 20 of the 72 decks on the second day of competition using any of the recent unbannings (11 Bloodbraid+Elf decks and nine Jace decks).
While most predicted Jund to be the most played deck by a wide margin, U/R Gifts Storm took the top spot at seven copies, leaving Jund and Burn as the No. 2 decks at six pilots each. Jeskai Control, G/W Hexproof, Eldrazi Tron, and Counters Company all had four players while Merfolk, G/R Ponza, Humans, and Mono-Green Tron clocked in with three pilots each.
Once the dominant deck in the format, Grixis Death’s Shadow dropped to just two copies on Day 2, along with Infect, Affinity, G/B Tron, and B/R Hollow+One. Unique strategies making it to the second day of competition include: Four-Color Pyromancer, Sultai Tezzeret, Tribal Zoo, R/G Hollow Vine, and G/B Company.
