Day 2 Metagame Breakdown
All players with 21 points made Day 2, meaning 84 players would return to battle for a shot at the Top 8 of the Modern Open at #SCGCOL. For all the talk of big mana decks taking over in Modern, the top of the metagame here in Columbus is anything but. Grixis Death’s Shadow leads the way at 10 copies, followed by Jeskai Control at eight, and Affinity at seven. Jeskai has slowly risen to the top of the field, matching up well against the other tops decks like Shadow, Affinity, and Burn – which had six players in Day 2.
G/W Company and Counters Company clocked in next with five and four copies, respectively. Infect, with a surprising three copies, showed up next despite the top two decks in the field being natural predators. Humans and U/W Control also came in with three players representing on the second day of competition. U/R Gifts Storm shockingly only had two copies reach Day 2, along with GW Hexproof, Elves, Skred Red, Scapeshift, Dredge, and a few other notable decks. Rogue strategies at one copy include: U/R Delver, Mono-Green Devotion, Naya Dragons, Mono-Blue Living End, and Esper Death’s Shadow.
