Day 2 Metagame Breakdown
All players with 18 points made Day 2, meaning 112 players would return to battle for a shot at the Top 8 of the Modern Open at #SCGRICH. While Affinity and Grixis Death’s Shadow have swapped the top spot in the Modern metagame over the past couple Modern Opens, the Day 2 field evened out with both decks having 11 pilots reach the second day of competition. The surprise, however, is Burn joining those two decks at the top of the meta as well.
The big three are immediately followed by Scapeshift at 10 copies, a deck that has surged in popularity thanks to Hour+of+Promise giving the deck more virtual copies of Primeval+Titan. Eldrazi Tron and Jeskai Control clock in at eight pilots each, with Eldrazi Tron coming of two straight Modern Open wins in the hands of Dredge and G/W Company are up next. G/W Company, the brainchild of Jund, Abzan, Living+End, Amulet Titan, Skred Red, and Bant Company. Notable rogue strategies with one player making Day 2 include: Ironworks Combo, 8-Rack, Mono-White Martyr, U/B Faeries, and G/R Ponza.
