All players with 21 points made Day 2, meaning 79 players would return to battle for a shot at the Top 8 of the Modern Open at #SCGBALT. Another new set, another uncommon shakes up Modern. Thanks to Vizier+of+Remedies, Counters Company has surged into the top deck in the format for this weekend. The next iteration of Abzan Company now focuses on Vizier+of+Remedies alongside Devoted+Druid to create endless amounts of mana, culminating in a massive Walking+Ballista to win the game – making win conditions like Murderous+Redcap or Archangel of Thune and Spike+Feeder obsolete. The deck can still gain “infinite” life with Kitchen+Finks, Viscera+Seer, and Vizier (replacing Melira%2C+Sylvok+Outcast and Anafenza%2C+Kin-Tree+Spirit), but now doesn’t need the graveyard for its game-winning combination. Counters Company took the top spot on Day 2 with 12 pilots.

While Affinity takes the No. 2 spot with 10 copies making the second day of competition, if you group together the different builds of Death’s Shadow decks, it ties Counters Company at 12 pilots. Burn clocks in as third with seven copies on Day 2, leaving the top Death’s Shadow decks as No. 4 and No. 5 with Grixis and Four-Color builds having six pilots and four pilots, respectively. Dredge, even without Golgari+Grave-Troll, also had four copies each on Day 2.

Eldrazi Tron is the only deck with three copies on Day 2, though G/R Tron, G/W Tron, and G/B Tron each had one pilot make Day 2. With two copies each, Jeskai Control and U/W Control join Grixis Delver, U/R Gifts Storm, Scapeshift, and Abzan Traverse. One-of strategies made up 21 of the 34 archetypes on the second day of competition. Singleton decks of note include: Ironworks Combo, Naya Company, Infect, Goryo’s Vengeance, Amulet Titan, and more.
