Day 2 Metagame Breakdown
All players with 19 points made Day 2, meaning 69 players would return to battle for a shot at the Top 8 of the Legacy Open at #SCGWOR. While Miracles maintains the top spot of the Legacy metagame, a new control deck is rising in popularity. The Four-Color Control build that adds red to a Sultai-based Leovold, Emissary of Trest and Snapcaster+Mage pile is the second-most played deck on Day 2. The deck, often referred to as “Czech Pile” has been championed by players like Noah Walker, Oliver Tiu, and Kevin King.
After the top control builds, Elves and Infect tie for the third-most played deck with five pilots each. At four copies, Death and Taxes, B/R Reanimator, and Lands had strong showings on the first day of competition. Colorless Eldrazi and Sultai Control clocked in with three copies each, but the Sultai decks all had differing builds – ranging from Reid Duke’s GP Louisville winning list to Jim Davis’ build using Green Sun’s Zenith and a toolbox package to go along with Leovold and friends.
Food+Chain, now with the addition of Walking+Ballista, joins Grixis Delver, Abzan Stoneblade, Sultai Delver, Burn, and Mono-Red Sneak Attack at two copies each. From there, interesting one-ofs include: Belcher, Imperial Painter, Mono-Green 12-Post, Aluren, and Mardu Stoneblade.
